Certificate Of Import Export Code (IEC)
The Importer-Exporter Code (IEC) is a crucial requirement for anyone engaged in import or export activities. It serves as a unique identification number that is mandatory for facilitating international trade transactions. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has recently introduced the option of obtaining the IEC in electronic format, known as e-IEC.
Procedures
To obtain an e-IEC, applicants can conveniently submit their applications online through the DGFT website (http//:dgft.gov.in). This online platform streamlines the application process, allowing applicants to upload necessary documents and complete payment of the required fee via Net banking. Subsequent processing of these applications is conducted digitally by the Regional Authorities (RAs) of DGFT. Upon approval, a digitally signed e-IEC is typically issued and communicated to the applicant via email.
In instances where an application is deemed incomplete or ineligible for any reason, it will be rejected. In such cases, the applicant receives a rejection letter or email detailing the reasons for the rejection, enabling them to rectify any deficiencies and reapply if necessary.
Alternatively, applicants also have the option to submit their e-IEC applications through the eBiz platform (https://www.ebiz.gov.in), offering another streamlined avenue for obtaining the necessary certification.
